Lizard Diver's encounter with Georges the dolphin during the first week of July was an exciting and unexpected event for all concerned.

Georges accompanied Instructor Dave Roberts while he was taking a group of divers on a tour of the 'Bellucia' - a wreck located off Cadgwith Cove, Cornwall.

George would not leave the divers throughout the 40 minute dive, and would often rest himself gently upon or next to the group members - seemingly enjoying the tactile proximity. Indeed, divers had his company during the ascent and safety stop as Georges swam at their side in a perfectly upright position throughout.

As the divers exited the water, Georges would often playfully tug at their fins. However, Georges' dangerous fascination with outboard propellors was apparent as the divers rode the inflatable back to shore, hence a cautious speed was maintained.

Although this encounter proved to be a rewarding and memorable one for all the divers concerned, it must be remembered that dolphins are wild creatures and interaction should be kept to a minimum where possible.
