These great shots were taken during Lizard Diver's 2001 summer season off The Lizard Peninsula. It should be remembered that Basking Sharks can grow to a considerable size - as can be seen in relation to our inflatable - so care must be taken at all times if you should approach them.

Of particular importance is the respect shown to these animals. Because of their large size, Basking Sharks tend not to be very agile in the water (most show a tendency to swim alarmingly close to obstacles), so please be extremely cautious when operating outboards and similar propulsion near them.

Similarly, respect their presence with regard to numbers of people and general noise disturbance. We are privileged to have these magnificent visitors to our waters; it would be a great shame to frighten them off with inconsiderate behaviour.
